Spotlight on Science features extraordinary and renowned scientists who shed light on innovative and exciting research in the sciences. This season’s Spotlight will focus on Artificial Intelligence and its impact on the latest scientific research. On Wednesday March 20 UCI scientists Eric Rignot and Isabella Velicogna, both world-renowned glaciologists, study the effects of global climate change on polar ice sheets. Their research uses satellites to understand the dynamics of glacier ice in Antarctica, Greenland, Alaska, and Patagonia. On Wednesday May 15, UCI scientist Brett Sanders, will speak on the impact of flooding and coastal erosion on the California coastline. Both are important research topics that will impact Newport Beach and its harbor and beaches. Free lectures in the Friends Room at the Central Library at 7pm.
